Thanksgiving Mishmash

Hi everyone!

Today we’d like to share a few things we put together for Thanksgiving. Though it’s a tad random, we hope you enjoy reading this post!

Because we wanted to help others give thanks during this Thanksgiving week, we made a printable sheet that you could fill out. We intended this to be a paper that you could fill out with things you’re thankful for, each one beginning with one letter from the word “Thankful” like the ones we did below. But it could also work just as well as a sheet that you can write anything you’re thankful for on to look at later.

We both find ourselves rarely taking the time out of our day to actually sit down and think of or write down what we are thankful for. Though Thanksgiving is a great time to have an excuse to really think about our blessings, we think it’s very important to make it a part of every day. This post may be focused around Thanksgiving, but we hope that we will all spend more time being thankful year-round. Though this post isn’t much, we hope that it can help us all in small ways to think more about the things we have been blessed with throughout our whole lives!

We also wanted to give a few suggestions for some things you could do during the Thanksgiving week.

Because we really enjoy drawing, Amelia came up with some drawing prompts to use. Even if you don’t like drawing very much, sometimes it’s just fun to try something out!

Book/Movie Suggestion

Although Little Women isn’t a new suggestion to anyone, it came to both of our minds as a great book and movie for Thanksgiving. One of the themes of the story is being grateful and content during a time with much more hardship than we have now.

There are a lot of adaptions of Little Women, but our favorite versions are the 1994 Little Women and the 2019 Little Women. When we were younger, we watched the 1994 version many, many times, so that one has some nostalgia for us. Although the storylines of the movies are very similar, the 2019 version has beautiful scenery and cinematography, and is a nice take on the book as well as the older movie, though they both have their own faults.

Now we would like to share a couple kinds of tea and a dessert.

Sweet & Spicy Tea – Mattie

This tea really lives up to it’s name. It is very sweet (sweet enough that I don’t even put any sweetener in it!), but it also has a very spicy cinnamon-y kick. My parents have been drinking this for a while, and they really like it, but I hadn’t liked it until recently. It is a very nice tea when you want something sweet and cinnamon-y.

Oregon Chai Tea Latte – Amelia

 I saw this tea at the grocery store and decided to try it since I love chai tea, and I ended up really liking it. It seems like a perfect fall drink to me because it has a spicy flavor. It’s also very strong and sweet, so I don’t drink very much at one time, but I thought it would be a great suggestion for a different kind of tea than what a tea drinker might normally have! 🙂

Pecan Pie Bars – by Land O Lakes

We love these bars! They are like pecan pie, but much easier to make and, in our opinion, better because they have less of a jelly filling. We’re planning to make these for Thanksgiving, so we thought they would be a perfect Thanksgiving dessert to share!

And to end this post, we’d like to share a couple Thanksgiving poems.

Merry Autumn Days

We hail the merry autumn days

When leaves are turning red,

Because they’re far more beautiful

Than anyone has said;

We hail the merry harvesttime,

The gayest of the year;

The time of rich and bounteous crops,

Rejoicing and good cheer.

– Charles Dickens

We’re Grateful for Our Blessings

With grateful hearts upon this day

We bow our heads in prayer

To thank the Lord of harvest for

The blessings that we share:

For golden grain to make our bread;

For fruits in plenty store,

For friends and loved ones gathered round,

For gifts that You outpour,

For days of sunshine and of rain

And every precious flower,

For songs of birds and sheltering trees

And every golden hour,

For health to do our daily tasks,

For rest and peaceful sleep.

Our grateful thanks we give to Thee

For blessing that we reap.

– Carice Williams

We hope you enjoyed reading this post, and we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

– Amelia and Mattie Grace
